Ukraine says it struck 16 major targets across Russia in a single day—including oil facilities, airfields, a missile unit, ammunition and fuel depots, a drone training center, and other military infrastructure. One of the biggest reported targets was Lukoil’s massive Nizhny Novgorod refinery, part of what President Zelensky calls Russia’s “oil wallet” financing the war.

A massive Wildberries logistics complex in Russia’s Tambov region also burned, while previously attacked refineries reportedly stopped accepting crude. Russia claims it intercepted 426 Ukrainian drones—even though Ukrainian reporting indicated approximately 360 were launched. I examine what was actually hit, the evidence of damage, and why Ukraine’s expanding strike campaign is pushing Russia’s vulnerable rear areas farther from the battlefield.

Russia simultaneously launched 162 drones against Ukraine. A four-year-old girl and her mother were killed when their home in Chernihiv was destroyed—another reminder that Russia continues targeting Ukrainian communities while Ukraine concentrates its long-range campaign on the infrastructure sustaining Russia’s war.
