In 2026, the member states of the European Union should spend about 70 billion euros on the defense of Ukraine. These funds should be directed to increasing the dominance of our country in the war unleashed by the Russian Federation. Moreover, the EU is considering increasing spending on supporting Ukraine.
This was stated by Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, on June 8, before an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Nicosia (Republic of Cyprus), FREEDOM reports. He stressed that this is how peace can be established.
“We are not so well informed at the moment, but in general, in my opinion, Ukraine is starting to dominate on different fronts, both on land near Donetsk and Pokrovsk, and during deep strikes. And this seems to really change the whole picture, the whole perception, and it gives the impression that this could push Putin to negotiate,” Kubilius said.

According to him, the meeting of defense ministers will discuss increasing EU spending on supporting Ukraine’s defense.
“In addition to the loan to support Ukraine, of course, there are also measures by member states to spend the same funds as last year – that is, about 70 billion. And these funds should be directed to increasing Ukraine’s dominance. This is how peace can be established,” the European Commissioner emphasized.
As OBOZ.UA reported, NATO is discussing the possibility of significantly increasing military assistance to Ukraine. The funding package is estimated at around 70 billion euros, which could be presented at the upcoming Alliance summit in Ankara.

A reflection on this time last year shows us how much things on the battlefield have improved for Ukraine since then. If the Europeans really do increase their military support, then we could see an increase in liberated territories.
