Ukraine hit one of Yandex’s most powerful data centers: what are the consequences?

The data center in Kaluga is more than five times more powerful than the one in Sasovo, which the Defense Forces attacked earlier.

A Ukrainian drone strike damaged part of the infrastructure of the data center of Yandex, one of Russia’s largest internet platforms, in Kaluga.

Russian media reported this, citing a company statement. It was noted that the damage resulted in several modules of the facility being disabled. “The drone attack damaged part of the Yandex data center infrastructure in Kaluga. Several data center modules were completely disabled,” the company stated.

They added that the extent and consequences of the damage are still being assessed. There were no injuries as a result of the strike.

Media outlets also noted that the Kaluga data center is more than five times more powerful than the one in Sasovo, which the Defense Forces previously attacked. This center provides a key part of the company’s cloud computing and services. Its total design capacity is 63 MW.
