Ukraine has taken the war to Russia

One million killed or seriously wounded.

Although Putin is bombing civilian areas in Ukraine’s major cities, Ukraine is successfully destroying Russian preparations for a summer offensive. Rail and road routes, oil refineries, arms manufacturing, airfields holding strategic aircraft, chemical factories that produce explosives, and many other materially important war production outlets are being hit every day.

Russian efforts to concentrate troops are being hit before they can gather in preparation areas in Donbas, headquarter groups are being destroyed and generals killed. By this Friday, Russian casualties will reach the terrible figure of one million killed or seriously wounded.

Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian civilians are pointless and tragic; they do nothing to advance Russia’s war efforts. Wars are not won by bombing civilians, they only make the affected people support resistance even more.

Ukraine in reply, is being careful not to bomb the centre of Moscow or St Petersburg and remains focused on military and war manufacturing targets.

Putin’s cannot locate or destroy Ukraine’s war manufacturing capability. His intelligence is poor, his missiles are inaccurate, and a large amount of Ukraine’s support, repair and manufacturing structure is further west in Europe.

Ukraine is establishing air-superiority, their drones penetrate Russia’s borders every day. Russian jets cannot fly in Ukrainian airspace; they can only launch missiles from within their own borders; even then at great risk.

Putin’s response to operation ‘Spiderweb,’ was to launch as many missiles as possible against Ukrainian cities. Many missiles penetrated defences hitting apartment blocks, but few if any were military targets. Until this week more than 70% of Russian drones and cruise missiles were destroyed before reaching targets in Ukraine.

On 8th June, in an interview, President Zelensky said Trump gave 20,000 anti-drone missiles allocated for Ukraine by President Biden ‘to a middle east nation,’ – probably Qatar; possibly in exchange for the over ostentatious, gold trimmed jet that Trump says Qatar ‘gifted’ to him. The Qatari government deny this and said, ‘Trump asked for the jet.’

Trump has already done a great deal of harm to Ukraine’s defensive efforts by cutting intelligence support and halting aid. Giving the anti-drone missiles to Qatar was another act against Ukraine, allies, and the interests of the USA.

That aside, Ukraine has extended its reach and strikes deep into Russia. In one week, we have seen the ‘Spiderweb’ strike on four military airfields, explosions under the Kerch Bridge and a train carrying tanks and armoured vehicles derailed with every item destroyed and another 10,000 Russian casualties.

Russia has no answers; it cannot defend its borders. As smoke billows from factories around Moscow the Russian people are no longer able to remove themselves mentally from a war that until recently, was viewed as a long way off.

Putin’s failed ‘Special Military Operation’ is coming home to haunt him. As the people of Moscow feel more vulnerable, Putin must feel the same.
