“Both of our countries—Ukraine and Israel—are fighting a battle for our survival,” Erdan said, as he touted 100 million tons of humanitarian aid Israel provided to Kyiv in the early weeks of the war.
“The state of Israel will always remain committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said, telling the assembly that his country was “working to provide Ukraine with early warning systems to save civilian lives from Russia’s indiscriminate missile and drone attacks.”
He added that Russia would be hosting a Hamas delegation in Moscow, making “it one of the only places outside of the Middle East where Hamas terrorists and Houthi Jihadists are given the red-carpet treatment, even after October 7.”
Social media users noted how Erdan’s comments have signaled a shift in Israel’s position, which at the start of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion saw it try to hold a neutral stance and maintain ties with both Ukraine and Russia.
Extraordinary!

Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, delivered a speech in which he totally torched Russia. He not only announced that Israel is going to provide an early warning systems against missiles for Ukraine but also called Ukraine an “ally”. He also equates Russia… https://t.co/sA3a6DnKrr pic.twitter.com/HbrvawXxr8
“Interesting. Israel has been rather neutral between Russia and Ukraine before, so this is a big positive change. Surprising that it did not occur earlier,” wrote economist and author Anders Aslund on X.
“Extraordinary!” wrote (((Tendar))) a pro-Ukrainian X user who posts about the war, noting that Erdan “totally torched Russia.”.
“You can be sure that this speech comes in coordination with the Israeli Prime Minister. It clearly marks the end of the relationship between Putin and (Benjamin) Netanyahu,” the post added.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Israel is concerned at the growing cooperation between Russia and Iran, which supplies Moscow with drones to target Ukrainian infrastructure.
Tehran-aligned groups in the Middle East, such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen, have also stepped up their attacks on Israel in the wake of the war in Gaza, leading Israel to cool Russian-Israeli ties while strengthening those with Ukraine, the newspaper noted.

Indeed, we were quite angry at Israel’s behavior before October 7, 2023. Unfortunately, it took the terrorist attack that killed many Israelis for the country to wake up and smell the coffee about mafia land. This is just another thing that we were right about.
I think that once the war in Gaza is over, Israel will give military aid to Ukraine. Ukraine, after all, is destroying Israel’s newest enemy.
In a battle for survival, it takes weapons to win, not humanitarian aid. I guess that Erdan tries to paint Israel as a good partner of the Ukraine – even though they aren’t – in order to get the stalled US foreign aid bill on the way. I wouldn’t trust anything said by this extremely rightwing government. 😕
I think it’s not easy for the Israelis to admit how wrong they were with mafia land. I am confident that a new era between Israel and mafia land and Ukraine has emerged since October. Israel has one new enemy; mafia land, and a new friend; Ukraine.
I would love to believe that, Mr. Ofp, but I’ll only take that for serious once the first MILITARY aid from Israel arrives in Ukraine. Please note that the headline is misleading, there’s no evidence of that so far. 😕
Well, Mr. Gray, I can’t predict the future, but if the passionate hate that some Israeli politicians have developed for mafia land is any indicator, I think there might be a chance for this to happen.
‘The’ Ukraine???
Great! 🇺🇦🇮🇱
Ukraine got a what from whom?😲
Ukraine got a misleading headline from Newsweek, Sir Bill. From Israel, so far only humanitarian aid. 🙁
Go figure, I won’t hold my breath. Is several areas that Israel could be very helpful on, such as air defense.
So true, Sir Bill! Zelenskyy did ask for Iron Dome missile defence, if I remember correctly. Dunno if Netanyahu even cared to answer that.
😕
Netanyahu is sitting on a thin branch, politically speaking. Mafia land is hated by many. Ukraine is fighting this new enemy. Ergo, it’s realistic to believe in future military aid from Israel. It all depends on Israel’s current fight and its aftermath. They are virtually surrounded by enemies, after all.
Sir Bill, it would be very, very risky for Israel to send anything military at the moment. We’ll have to wait until the war in Gaza is over to see what will happen.
