Russia to Ban Gasoline Exports for 6 Months

Russia will impose a six-month ban on gasoline exports starting March 1 to meet rising domestic demand, the RBC news outlet reported Tuesday, citing two government sources and a representative of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

Novak was said to have told Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in a letter last month that demand for fuel will grow because of summer vacation travel, spring fieldwork on farms and planned repairs at oil refineries.

“In order to offset the booming demand for petroleum products, measures are needed to help stabilize domestic prices,” an internal letter Novak sent to Mishustin was quoted as saying by RBC.

A representative for the Deputy Prime Minister confirmed to RBC the government’s decision to introduce a six-month gasoline export ban.

Russia previously imposed “temporary restrictions” on gasoline and diesel exports between September and November to tackle surging prices.

Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were exempt from the export ban as members of the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union.

The latest ban exempts the same countries, as well as Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Georgia’s separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which Russia recognizes as independent states.

Last year, Russia ramped up gasoline exports to new buyers after the United States, the EU and G7 countries banned Russian oil products over the invasion of Ukraine.

  1. “In order to offset the booming demand for petroleum products, measures are needed to help stabilize domestic prices,”

That’s one way of saying, the destruction of oil facilities by Ukraine has fucked up our exports. We need more facilities destroying, this might be the best way to defeat mafia land.

    • Exactly, Foccusser, a very good sign! The RuSSkies are seeing the writing on the wall – no more fuel for tanks and planes – and are starting to panic. ““Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.“ i don’t claim to be smarter than grandmaster Churchill, but I guess it may even be the turnaround point, halftime in the war. From now on, once the new ammo deliveries come in, it will be all downhill for the Putin gang. Like for Nazi Germany, starting 1943.

  2. Ha! That’s the result of so many refineries destroyed. Not Enough production for export anymore, so any further attacks will reduce the amount available for domestic use, most prominently the army. This is a sure sign the AFU’s strategy is working, so increase those airstrikes!

  3. Actually its not due to a shortage caused by anything, its because the moskali economy is booming again, like it did a little while ago when they had to stop exports.

We should do our bit to help their economy boom even more by striking more refineries, blowing up more fuel tankers and trains, and hitting their Gas terminals.

Ecologically speaking this is also the right thing to do, also it will encourage them to further develop their electric vehicle program.

    • Oil infrastructure should be a priority target. When the 8th Air Force made German oil production the priority target, the German war machine ground to a halt. The same thing can be done to Putin’s war machine.

    • Well, Mason, what’s booming now is only their defence industry, there’s hardly any money left for anything else. And once those corporations’ demands can’t be met anymore, it will have consequences on the war. The RuSSkies are now in the uncomfortable position to decide where to cut back first. Tank production? Fighter jets? Transport? The army? No matter what they do, it will hurt their war efforts. With the whole state working to feed the meat grinders, there’s no reserves left for grand reforms. So, your probably tongue-in-cheek advice to go electric is like saying “let them eat cake”. 😁
