Ukraine bans Russian language channel

Ukraine’s National Council has removed RTV1 from the list of channels allowed to be distributed in the country.

In a statement, it says that the channel, which is a Russian language service aimed at viewers outside Russia, was temporarily suspended for a year up until March 7, 2020.

Although it was licensed in the UK at the start of the suspension it is now registered in Spain following a change of ownership that the National Council was informed about in February.

The regulator’s decision to ban RTVI follows monitoring of its programming between February 24 and March 1 this year.

This was found to violate part 2 of Article 6 of the law On Television and Radio Broadcasting.

  1. Not before time. Ukraine need to ban the Russian channels operating in Ukraine, 112, Zik etc.

    • Agreed, start with the media and revoke Moskali licenses and monitor the language law closely. One would think with a media savvy president these things would be already implemented and second nature for Zelensky…

  2. So isn’t it time to ban all the Russian banks, businesses, embassy and consulates also? Plus banning putinoid scum political parties and oligarchs? What are they waiting for?
