Marco Rubio stated that Ukraine has no chance of returning all the occupied territories.

The official US position should be that the full-scale war started by Russia against Ukraine should be ended, said Marco Rubio, the candidate for the post of Secretary of State in the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump .

He added that both Russia and Ukraine will have to make concessions in reaching a peace agreement. “Everyone should be realistic: both Russia and Ukraine will have to make concessions,” Rubio said in a speech to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the New York Times reports .

The senator also noted that Ukraine has one serious problem, and it is not that it is running out of money, but that it is “running out of Ukrainians.” But Russia still has no chance of seizing all of Ukraine, just as Ukraine has no chance of returning the temporarily occupied territories.

“The destruction in Ukraine is extraordinary and will take generations to rebuild. Millions of Ukrainians no longer live in their homeland and may never return. Even as I speak, Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is crumbling and will cost hundreds of billions of dollars and decades to rebuild,” Rubio said.
