Ukraine and  Poland are planning to connect the capitals of the countries with a high-speed railway. According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, negotiations on this matter have already begun.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the Ukrainian government has already begun negotiations on the construction of the Kiev-Warsaw railway link with the government of Poland.

“At the initiative of the presidents of Ukraine and Poland, we started a dialogue on connecting Kiev and Warsaw with a high-speed railway. We also began the reconstruction, modernization and technical re-equipment of five checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border,” he said.

Shmyhal also said that Ukraine and Poland have begun negotiations on preparations for the conclusion of an agreement on the liberalization of international transit freight traffic between Ukraine and the EU.

“The Ukrainian and Polish sides agreed on the eve of a significant increase in the number of permits for international freight traffic. And also on the abolition of restrictions on the transit of freight cars through the territory of Ukraine to Poland by rail,” the Prime Minister added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on January 31, Poland and Ukraine issued a joint statement in the field of infrastructure and agreed on a number of improvements.

In particular, the parties agreed on the earliest possible lifting of restrictions on the transit of freight cars through the territory of Ukraine to Poland by rail, and also agreed on a significant increase in the number of permits for international freight traffic.
