The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced in absentia to 18 and 24 years in prison Russian Elena Popova and Ukrainian Maria Savosta, who are accused of the murder of Russian missile officer Konstantin Nagaiko.

A New Year’s gift exploded
The operative part of the verdict, to which the agency refers, states that 29-year-old Nagayko was killed in the city of Shuya, Ivanovo region, on December 30, 2024. According to the investigation, Savosta sent him a package with a cosmetic set as a New Year’s gift. Popova handed over the package to Nagayko through other people, and it ended up on the officer’s desk. When the serviceman opened the gift, an explosion occurred. Law enforcement officers determined that the package contained a homemade bomb.
Sentences for women
The court sentenced Savosta to 18 years in a penal colony, and Popova to 24 years in prison, a year of restricted liberty, and a fine of 700,000 rubles. The defendants were also fined 70,000 rubles at the request of the military unit where the explosion occurred.
Both women were found guilty of committing a terrorist act, the convicted women were put on the international wanted list and arrested in absentia.
As a reminder, on January 4, 2025, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s GUR reported that the occupier involved in the deaths of 59 civilians in the village of Groza was blown up in Russia.
