Istanbul noted the ineffectiveness of the UN amid the war in Ukraine.

Turkey has announced increased efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war through diplomacy and dialogue based on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
This was stated in the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the UN General Assembly in New York. According to him, in the third year of the war in Ukraine, “we are still far from establishing a just and lasting peace.”
“As the arms race accelerates, the field of diplomacy is gradually narrowing. We will continue to increase our support for efforts to end the war through diplomacy and dialogue based on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,” Erdogan emphasized.
He added that Istanbul would continue to strictly implement the provisions of the Montreux Convention, but also emphasized the ineffectiveness of the UN and called for reform of the organization, in particular its Security Council.
War in Ukraine – UN reform
As UNIAN reported, Finland proposes to expel Russia from the UN by reforming the organization’s Security Council. In addition, they want to double the number of permanent members.
On September 22, the UN adopted a revolutionary reform plan . It is noted that Russia tried to block the adoption by all 193 member states of the organization of the so-called Pact for the Future, developed under the leadership of Germany, but Moscow failed.
In its amendment, Russia emphasized the “principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states” and called on the UN to avoid duplicating efforts. Russia’s objections were supported by its traditional allies – Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Nicaragua and Syria.
