The US Secretary of State said that the ball is now in Russia’s court.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a statement following the meeting of Ukrainian and US representatives in Saudi Arabia on March 11.
“Today we made an offer that the Ukrainians accepted, namely to conclude a ceasefire agreement and to begin immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that is long-lasting and sustainable and that takes into account their interests, their security, their ability to prosper as a nation,” he said.
According to Rubio, Washington now intends to approach the Russian side with this proposal.
“We hope that they will say ‘yes’ to peace. The ball is now in their court. But, I repeat, the president’s (Donald Trump’s, – ed.) goal here is one – first of all, he wants the war to end. And I think that today Ukraine has taken a concrete step in this direction. We hope that the Russians will reciprocate,” the US Secretary of State added.
