The US President calls some Russian oligarchs “very good people.”

US President Donald Trump may allow Russian oligarchs to obtain US citizenship with a “gold” card that will cost $5 million. At the same time, Trump believes that there are “very good people” among Russian oligarchs, Politico writes .

As is known, on February 25, Trump announced the possibility for foreign citizens to obtain American citizenship by purchasing a “gold” card for $5 million.

In particular, he did not rule out such a possibility for Russian oligarchs. As the president noted, he knows some of them, and they “are very good people.”

“They’re not as rich as they used to be. I think they can afford $5 million,” Politico quotes Trump as saying.

The publication notes that Russian oligarchs are wealthy businessmen with political connections who at one time benefited from post-Soviet privatization in Russia, and also have influence on politics, the media, and key industries.

“Some of Russia’s most notorious oligarchs – Roman Abramovich, Oleg Deripaska and Alisher Usmanov – have faced sanctions and controversy over their ties to the Kremlin,” the article says.

The publication also recalled that in his final speech from the Oval Office in January, former US President Joe Biden warned of the rise of a super-rich “oligarchy” in America that poses a threat to the country’s democracy, and called on US citizens to protect institutions from “powerful forces.”
