In the Russian-Ukrainian war, America was the first to surrender: Ukrainians in the US about Trump

The Ukrainian diaspora has been shocked by Trump’s statements and actions in recent weeks.

Ukrainian-Americans , as well as those Ukrainians who have recently settled in the United States, are worried about the policies of the new presidential administration, The Washington Post writes .

“I feel the same fear and nervousness today as I did three years ago when the war began. Some of the new events have made me scared and very worried,” said Kristina Prokopovych, curator of the Ukrainian Heritage Museum in Pennsylvania.

Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Philadelphia Irina Mazur says that the first reaction to Donald Trump’s latest statements and actions regarding Ukraine and Russia was “shock, a feeling of incredible betrayal.”

The problem that directly concerns the Ukrainian community in the United States is the anti-immigrant policy of the new administration.

Anatoliy Murga, CEO of the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union “Samopomich,” speaks of “great concern” about the future of Ukrainian refugees in the United States who came under the special U4U program introduced by the Biden administration after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“There is a lot of anxiety and confusion about the clarity of the program,” says Murga.

Whether they had only been in Pennsylvania for three years or had been there for generations, Ukrainian Americans felt the need to maintain hope and remain a united community in the United States.

“Today, all Ukrainians, we have been very proud of President Zelenskyy for three years for standing up to Putin. We have been very proud of our home, our ancestral homeland, for standing up to Moscow. I think today we are even more proud that he is standing up to Trump,” said Nicholas Rudnycky, dean of academic services at Ukrainian Manor College in Pennsylvania.

However, Irina Mazur is convinced that the United States will support Ukraine one way or another.

“I don’t believe that the American people will give up on Ukraine, I don’t believe that the American people will actually have their grandchildren reading history books that will say that in the Russian-Ukrainian war, America surrendered first,” she said.

  1. Yes, The United States has surrendered first. Even tiny Lithuania, or Estonia, or the Czech Republic are still standing tall.
Under Trump, we are so pathetic!
