According to the general, the United States considers Europe unimportant.

Europe is gradually coming to the realization that it cannot count on the United States as a fair partner. This opinion was expressed by former US Army Commander in Europe General Ben Hodges in an interview  with Euronews .

“The United States really does view Europe as unimportant, except perhaps for some business purposes,” he told reporters.

Hodges believes that the Trump administration’s approach to the war in Ukraine was “doomed from the start.” He emphasized that the American leader and his team are treating the conflict like a “massive real estate deal.”

Hodges also pointed to recent revelations concerning US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the US leader’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner (recent publications in Western media revealing details of secret negotiations and their contacts with Russian officials – UNIAN). He emphasized that this is proof that the US is eager to resume trade relations with Moscow.

“If things go the way Witkoff and Kushner want, it will be a huge problem for Europe,” Hodges said.

The general added that this shift in priorities within the US administration became even more evident when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to skip a key NATO meeting in Brussels.

“It’s unusual, but it’s part of the problem. Europe ranks fourth on the current administration’s list of priorities, behind the Western Hemisphere, the Indo-Pacific, and the Middle East,” he assured.

Nevertheless, Hodges is confident the situation is not hopeless. He stated that Ukraine is not losing, and that Russia has captured only about 20% of the country’s territory in 11 years of war, while the Russian economy is in deep crisis.Read also:

According to Hodges, Ukraine and Europe together have the resources and capabilities to stop Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He believes that Europe currently lacks the self-confidence and political will to achieve this goal.

The US discussed with Ukraine the possibility of abandoning NATO membership.

CNN previously reported, citing its sources, that during talks in Florida on November 30, the US and Ukraine discussed a scenario in which Kyiv abandons its NATO membership . The agency’s source emphasized that Ukraine will not be forced to formally, or de jure, abandon this aspiration.

According to the source, if the US reaches an agreement with Russia on a bilateral basis or if Moscow wants to receive some guarantees from NATO on a multilateral basis, then Ukraine will not be involved in the decision-making process.
