Trump supports approval of assistance to Ukraine, but in loan form

Former US President Donald Trump, after meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson, has hinted that he does not oppose providing assistance to Ukraine but in the form of a loan.

Details: Stepping out for comments alongside Johnson at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump stated that they are “thinking about making it in the form of a loan instead of just a gift”.

Quote: “We keep handing out gifts of billions and billions of dollars, and we’ll take a look at it,” Trump continued. “But much more importantly to me is the fact that Europe has to step up, and they have to give money. They have to equalise. If they don’t equalise I’m very upset about it, because they’re affected much more than we are.”

Background:

  • On Friday, 12 April, House Speaker Mike Johnson and White House officials were discussing a package that would differ from the Senate’s proposed US$95 billion security package and include several Republican demands. After that, he went to meet Trump.
  • For months, Trump has been sceptical about further US assistance to Ukraine, arguing that it is not essential to vital US interests. He suggested that the primary responsibility in this matter should lie with Europe. Trump’s views have had a significant influence on Republicans in Congress, complicating the approval of additional funding to support Ukraine.
  • Democrats in both chambers of Congress indicated that they are willing to consider providing assistance to Ukraine in the form of a loan if it helps finally resolve the issue. However, it is not the preferred option for them.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said that Ukraine would accept a loan from the US in the absence of other options.

  1. It’s actually already been established beyond any doubt that only a small proportion of the $62 billion actually goes to Ukraine. Most of it goes on jobs for Americans.
So the cost factor is a red herring.
It might well be yet another delaying ploy. Might they spend months more debating as to how the loan would be administered? While of course more Ukrainians die needlessly.
Ukraine already stated that they don’t mind it being done as a loan; they just need the stuff right now to save lives.

    • Trump doesn’t have the mental capacity to comprehend what a red herring is. He only knows that keeping aid from reaching Ukraine helps his fellow criminal in the kremlin.

  2. The orange baboon spoke again about the loan proposal, but again conditioned it on new requests. Now he wants Europe, which this year voted for a package of 50 billion in macroeconomic aid, which is responsible for welcoming millions of refugees and which will probably deliver several tens of billions in military aid in 2024, to match the aid American military. He argues that Europe must pay, because it is more of a European problem than an American one. He will be reminded that the USA (Russia, UK) is a signatory to the 1994 agreements intended to ensure Ukraine’s security. Not Europe.

If it is a loan why would there be the need for Europe to equalize anything? I have nothing against the principle that Europe (world?) helps more of course (it must do more), but it’s always the same thing with this criminal and immature asshole: every day another excuse, new criminal mantra to slow down everything and destroy Ukraine.

  3. This makes no sense. If it’s a loan anyway, why the eurotrash needs to step up? The euros did not even deliver half of the promised ammo. They won’t come out of their cowardly asses. France has an army as big as Macron’s mouth and Scholz’s open ass, but has not delivered truckloads of arms, ammo or planes. We must step in with a big loan. If Putin wins, Europe’s economies could collapse, which will also affect the US economy.

    • I agree. If it’s a loan, it shouldn’t matter at all who gives what. The asshole is just procrastinating.
