Trump’s deal with Putin to import Russian fuel has “ugly implications” for Ukraine and the rest of the world, says billionaire financier turned activist and Putin critic, Sir Bill Browder.

An impressive façade with very little behind it, but the damage is real. Washington gives something away for little in return, moves closer to Moscow and, I suspect, opens the door to profits for Trump’s friends and family.
Assume the initial reporting is right and Ukraine continues, or escalates its deep strikes with European support, Russian refineries keep burning, Moscow will then claim those strikes prevent it from fulfilling the deal, providing a convenient excuse for commitments it may never have been able to meet.
Who will Trump blame when the façade collapses? The hucksters in Moscow and Miami who sold him the bargain, or Ukraine, the country he has sold out?
Even if the deal falls apart, Russia could secure a major strategic victory, turning Ukrainian self-defence into the supposed reason it failed.
I suspect Moscow has built that outcome into the bargain from the start.

What on earth is happening in Austria? This is absolutely outrageous!
Yesterday, Austrian police violently arrested two Ukrainian journalists in Vienna. And the details are absolutely shocking.
According to journalist Mykhailo Tkach, seven masked, armed men surrounded their car at a traffic light, smashed its windows, pointed guns at them, dragged them onto the road, and forced them face down.
When Tkach repeatedly explained that he was a journalist, one of the man pressed a knee against his neck and ordered him to shut up.
His colleague, Yaroslav Bondarenko, suffered facial injuries from the shattered glass and required stitches.
And what was their supposed crime? ESPIONAGE!
The Ukrainian journalists were suspected of spying for Ukrainian military intelligence, participating in a criminal organization, and harming Austria.
And the best part, Austrian police had ZERO evidence!
What were they actually doing in Austria?
They were investigating the whereabouts of former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, who fled Ukraine amid corruption allegations.
Tkach spent 12 hours in detention before being released. He suspects that individuals connected to the investigation may have deliberately misled Austrian authorities to obstruct their journalistic work.
But I am shocked that the Austrian authorities behave like russians. This is not how a European democracy should treat journalists.
Journalists are supposed to expose corruption, not face guns, broken windows, and accusations of espionage for doing their jobs.
Austria owes these journalists an apology and full investigation of who supplied the information that triggered this unlawful operation. The officers who carried this unlawful attack must also be investigated.
This is unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable.
