The US President is convinced that the American military was used incorrectly before him.

The United States will no longer bring democracy to other countries “at gunpoint,” President Donald Trump said during his commencement speech at West Point.

In his speech, Trump complained at length that his predecessors were engaged in “all kinds of social projects” in the military, “while simultaneously leaving our borders unprotected and depleting our arsenals to participate in other people’s wars.”

“We fought for the borders of other countries, but we didn’t defend our own. But now everything is different – now we are fighting like never before. The task of the US Armed Forces is (…) not to transform foreign cultures, not to spread democracy around the world at gunpoint. The mission of the army is to dominate any enemy and destroy any threat to America – anywhere, anytime, and in any place,” he said.

At the same time, Trump acknowledged that the American army needs to adapt to modern military realities, and therefore is adopting the experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“Things are changing very quickly. Unfortunately, we see it in Russia and Ukraine. We are studying it. And it’s terrible to study this, but we are seeing different forms of warfare. We are seeing drones coming down at an angle, with incredible speed and precision – we have never seen anything like it before. Never. And we are learning from it,” Trump said.
