The Russian occupiers have firmly established themselves in the border region of Sumy Oblast , and now this territory can no longer be considered simply a “gray zone” – the enemy confidently controls it. This is reported by the Ukrainian monitoring project DeepState .

Analysts note that the enemy’s first attempts to take positions in Sumy region date back to early March, when it was still part of the battle for Sudzha. At that time, Ukrainian defenders managed to repel Russian attacks, but active pressure from enemy infantry and drones eventually yielded results. The Russians began to gradually push Ukrainian units back from the border line in the area of ​​the villages of Novenke and Zhuravka, DeepState says.

“For a long time, Sumy region (border region – UNIAN) could be perceived as a gray zone, because the fighters of the Defense Forces tried and are trying to restrain the enemy. (…) However, it is worth noting that they (the Russians) managed to gain a foothold along the Veselivka-Zhuravka-Novenke-Basivka section and they continue to make attempts to enter Bilovody, and the situation in Lokny is also difficult,” analysts admit. 

DeepState says that the Defense Forces have managed to somewhat stabilize the enemy’s sharp advance deep into the Sumy region. And although the enemy infantry continues to “climb like locusts,” UAV crews are destroying it every day and every night. However, it is also not worth hoping that the enemy will abandon attempts to advance further due to high losses.

“After ousting us from Kursk, their plans included the creation of a “buffer zone” in Sumy, which is quite logical and expected in this scenario of events,” they emphasize there.
