Trump will announce a new “aggressive” plan to arm Ukraine today

US President Donald Trump will announce a new plan to arm Ukraine on Monday, which is expected to include offensive weapons, Axios writes , citing its sources.
“Two sources told Axios that they have reason to believe the plan is likely to include long-range missiles capable of reaching targets deep inside Russia, including Moscow,” the publication writes.
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham told Axios that Trump is really angry with Putin and his upcoming statement will be “very aggressive.”
Axios notes that the new initiative, which will be presented at a meeting between Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, envisages that European countries will pay for American-made weapons sent to Ukraine. This scheme was proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a NATO summit two weeks ago.
It is noted that one of the factors that convinced Trump to take this path was a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin on July 3, in which the Russian leader made it clear that he was planning an escalation of the war.
Putin made it clear to Trump that over the next 60 days he plans to intensify the offensive with the aim of completely capturing all four occupied regions of Ukraine.
“He wants to take over everything,” Trump told French President Emmanuel Macron shortly after his conversation with Putin, a source familiar with the situation said.
In the following days, the arms supply plan evolved from an idea to something more concrete, Axios notes.
Trump and the war in Ukraine
Recall, a few days ago, Trump said that he was disappointed with Russia and planned to make a “major statement” on Monday.
On Sunday, the US president announced that he plans to supply Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems and missiles.
“We’re going to send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because Putin has really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice, and then he bombs everyone at night. But there’s a little problem here. I don’t like it,” Trump said.
