US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would send Patriot missiles to Ukraine , saying they are necessary to defend the country.

“I haven’t agreed on the number yet, but they will have some because they need protection. But the European Union is paying for it. We don’t pay anything for it. But we will send it, it will be a business for us. And we will send them Patriots, which they urgently need,” the US president said, answering a journalist’s question about whether the US will supply Ukraine with additional missiles for Ukraine.

According to Reuters , Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“We’re going to send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because Putin has really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice, and then he bombs everyone at night. But there’s a little problem here. I don’t like it,” Trump said.

He added that the United States plans to supply Ukraine with various models of high-tech military equipment.

“They will pay us 100% for it, and we want that,” he said.

He said the European Union would reimburse the United States for the cost of the supplies. He said he plans to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte this week to discuss Ukraine and other issues.

It is worth noting that some Western media outlets, such as WSJ and Bloomberg , write that Trump was referring to the supply of Patriot air defense systems, not missiles.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that European countries should share their Patriot batteries with Ukraine . According to the Secretary of State, Spain and Germany, in particular, could transfer their complexes to Ukraine.
