US President Donald Trump may resume the supply of Patriot missiles to Ukraine after a “very good” conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky , Reuters reports .
According to the publication’s sources, Trump is positive and has expressed his willingness to review suspended shipments, including dozens of air defense missiles that Ukraine critically needs to protect itself from Russian strikes.
It is noted that Kyiv hopes for a speedy resolution of the issue, despite previous delays due to the so-called “lack of resources.”
The publication writes that Ukraine is asking Washington to sell it more Patriot missiles and systems, which it considers key to protecting its cities from increasing Russian air strikes. The article says:
“Washington’s decision to suspend some arms shipments to Ukraine has prompted warnings from Kyiv that the move will weaken its ability to defend itself against Russian airstrikes and battlefield offensives.”
One of the sources told Reuters they were optimistic that Patriot missile deliveries could resume after what they called a “very good” conversation between the presidents.
Trump and Zelensky’s conversation
The American publication Axios reported that the conversation lasted about 40 minutes, and that Trump told Zelensky that he would check what American weapons should be sent to Ukraine , if any, had been suspended.
Zelensky later said that he and Trump agreed to “organize a meeting between our teams to strengthen air defense.”
The conversation came the day after Trump said he had a disappointing phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
