Trump is not just pro-Russian, he is also anti-Ukrainian – columnist of The Washington Post

According to Max Booth, the ex-president of the USA has a “long and disturbing experience of using Russian propaganda” and spreading conspiracy theories about Ukraine.

Ukraine’s ammunition is running out, and its forward positions are in danger of being destroyed before a Russian offensive. The US Senate passed a bill that included $60 billion in badly needed aid for Ukraine , but House Speaker Mike Johnson is still not allowing it to go to a vote in the House. Why not? The explanation can be described in two words: Donald Trump. About this in his column for The Washington Post, columnist Max Booth, a senior researcher at the Council on International Relations, writes.

In his opinion, Johnson knows that the most ardent followers of the former (and possibly future) president are ready to oust him if he dares to give aid to Ukraine. At the same time, if Nikki Haley was the likely candidate from the Republican Party, the aid package would have been passed long ago.

“It’s no secret that Trump is pro-Russian — and particularly toward Vladimir Putin. Elected with Russian help in 2016, Trump has never, ever criticized the Russian dictator, even after the recent death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a Russian colony. Trump went from inviting Russia in 2016 to meddling in the US elections … and in 2024 he invited Russia to invade NATO countries that do not pay enough for defense, – the author notes.

At the same time, according to him, less well-known than Trump’s affection for Russia is his disdain for Ukraine, “but that has also been evident for at least a decade.”

“Trump has a long and troubling track record of using Russian propaganda and spreading crazy conspiracy theories about Ukraine, a country that Putin, like many Russians, views as a wayward province of Mother Russia,” Bout said.

The journalist reminds that when Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Trump called it a “brilliant”, “smart” and “savvy” act, and later declared that he would end the war in Ukraine “in one day” – which was possible could be achieved only by forcing Kyiv to capitulate.

“Whatever Trump’s actual thought process — and it’s true that his often contradictory and conspiratorial statements are hard to decipher — the end result is clear: He’s turned the Republican Party, which once prided itself on standing up to the “evil empire,” into Putin’s poodle. Kremlin meddling to the 2016 U.S. election, which could tip the scales in a race Trump won by a narrow margin, could turn out to be one of the most significant covert operations in history, allowing the Russian dictator to win a victory in Washington that his troops failed to win in the battlefield,” summarizes the reviewer.

      • He was the first to give lethal aid to Ukraine. The Javelins they used during teh first months of Russia’s widened war came from Trump’s administration. Obama gave blankets and such. Ukraine would be in far worse condition had Trump not sent the Javelins.

        • What good is it if you not allowed to bring them to the front lines. Geez. With that proviso, what do you do? Use it as a door stop?

  1. Books by Kurt Volker and John Bolton reveal separately the intense hatred Trumpkov has for Ukraine in private conversations.
But that hatred goes back a long way. His close friend Paul Manafort instilled it into him years ago even before his ward Yanukovich escaped to putlerstan.
Trumpkov has been talking publicly about partitioning Ukraine since at least 2015.

  2. Trump is not only pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian. But also and above all an unconditional lover of all the autocratic scoundrels on the planet. His deepest wish is to exercise power like them. He even finds qualities in Hitler (“a military leader who did good things”)!!!!

Kim, Putin, Erdogan, Orban, Xi… form the club of which he dreams of becoming a member. He himself feels ready to join this club of deranged people, even if he only completed his initiation ritual on January 6. There is, however, progress; he’s already encouraged Putin to attack NATO, he thinks being president for life is a great idea, and his lawyers have argued that presidential immunity would allow the president to send ST-6s to assassinate political opponents. Concerning the RNC, the purification has already started. The Republican Party will literally be canibalized from within. There will only be a corpse left when the orange baboon has finished its meal.

Yes, he is ready. Prepare the popcorn. Well, have fun.

  3. Trump is not predictable. He has said he would support Ukraine, but then says things that makes it seem like he won’t. He has been very contradictory on the issue.

  4. One thing that seems to get over looked was the provision of counter battery radar during the obummer administration. And the javelins that were provided, (a year into the orange one’s administration) were from funds passed during obummer administration under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
