Without Tomahawks, the war in Ukraine will drag on for a long time, the publication notes.
At a meeting with Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy hoped to persuade the US president to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, which could end the Russian-Ukrainian war, but returned empty-handed. Worse still, Trump appears to have reverted to his old views on Russia after a phone call with Vladimir Putin , The Times notes .
While this visit to the White House was less explosive than in February, when Zelensky was verbally attacked by Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance, it was ineffective, the publication writes.
“The previous meeting this year highlighted the lack of understanding between the US and Ukrainian presidents, which is important to Trump and continues to this day. Finnish President Alexander Stubb previously said that Russia has “imperialism” in its DNA and that “the only thing President Putin and Russia understand is force.”
“Now is the time not to leave Ukraine in limbo, but to see the matter through, and that means having enough Tomahawk missiles to force Russia to make peace on terms that do not infringe on Ukraine’s interests,” The Times notes.
These missiles could destroy the missile and drone bases Russia uses to launch deadly strikes against Ukraine. They could also destroy oil and gas facilities vital to the Russian military machine.
“Without them, the war and killings will drag on for another harsh winter,” the publication concludes.
