The Governor of the US state of New Jersey, Mickey Sherrill, has urged port managers and terminal operators not to accept tankers with Russian diesel fuel, warning of possible criminal prosecution for violating federal law.

As Censor.NET reports with reference to CBS News , the official recalled in a letter dated November 2 that Congress in April 2022 banned the import of energy resources from Russia in response to the aggression against Ukraine.
The governor promised to use legal and regulatory mechanisms to prevent the acceptance of Russian diesel at ports and other facilities in the state.
Democrat Sherrill emphasized that President Donald Trump and Treasury officials do not have the authority to repeal sanctions imposed by Congress.
Sherrill accused Trump of supporting Putin
“New Jersey will not stand by while Donald Trump supports Vladimir Putin at the expense of Americans,” she said. “Instead of lowering prices, he is helping to fund Putin’s war on Ukraine and a global campaign of violence and terror that endangers American service members abroad.”
Russian tankers are already heading to the US
According to Sherrill, Russia has already sent several tankers with diesel fuel to the United States, and at least one of them is likely headed for New Jersey.
In a letter to the state’s port managers and terminal operators, she urged them not to accept such vessels.
“Any attempts to profit from the illegal trade in Russian fuel will result in severe penalties,” the governor stressed. “I urge you to turn away any tanker that attempts to use your facilities for such illegal activity.”
As of November 3, the average price of a gallon of diesel in the United States is $6.29, compared to $3.68 a year ago. Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n4031915
