Ukrainian military and manufacturers have combined electronic warfare (EW) capabilities to disrupt the navigation and control channels of enemy drones, including those that use mesh networks to transmit signals between drones.
This was stated on the air of Espresso and Slawa.TV by military expert, director of Defense Express Serhiy Zgurets.
According to him, signs of the Ukrainian electronic warfare system are visible even when approaching the capital: at a considerable distance from Kyiv, car GPS navigators lose their signal. At the same time, the Russians use mesh networks in which drones transmit signals to each other, which allows them to be controlled from Russian territory.
In response, the Ukrainian military, together with domestic manufacturers, developed a system that should make such control of enemy “shaheeds” more difficult.
“For some time, the Ukrainian military, together with our industrialists, have been creating a system that will make it impossible to control such “shaheeds” using a mesh network and these modems,” Zgurets explained.
He noted that the current development is the result of the combined efforts of many Ukrainian companies and enterprises. At the same time, its effectiveness will depend on the system’s ability not only to suppress the navigation and control channels of Russian drones, but also to ensure the smooth operation of Ukrainian interception equipment.
“The biggest challenge is integration and interaction,” the military expert emphasized.
Zgurets added that Ukrainian manufacturers and the military are demonstrating significant progress in creating electronic warfare means, so the main task now is to correctly implement their technical and technological interaction. Such electronic warfare protection, in his opinion, should become an important component of the defense not only of Kyiv, but also of other Ukrainian cities.
On November 2, Presidential Adviser on Defense Technological Development Serhiy Beskrestnov reported that a large-scale electronic warfare system was deployed over Kyiv in a few weeks, which is intended to prevent remote control of Russian jet “Shaheeds”. The operation involved electronic warfare manufacturers, the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other structures.
