Trump asks China, France, Japan, South Korea and Britain to help US unblock Strait of Hormuz

March 14, 2026

US President Donald Trump has asked a number of countries around the world to provide their warships for a joint military operation with the US to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has stopped the movement of oil tankers.

This is reported by BBC News, citing Trump’s statement on his own Truth Social network.

The US president said he hopes China, France, Japan, South Korea and the UK will send warships to the key shipping channel so it “no longer poses a threat” from Iran.

This shipping channel must be “open and safe,” Trump added.

In turn, the United States, Trump stressed, will “bomb the coastline and constantly fire at Iranian boats and ships from the water.”

At the same time, the American head of state claims that the US has allegedly “destroyed 100% of Iran’s military potential,” but says that it is still “easy” for them to use drones, mines, and short-range missiles.

In turn, the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Geneva, Ali Bahrani, assessed Trump’s statements about eliminating Tehran’s capabilities as “based on fabricated lies.”

Strait of Hormuz and oil

The Strait of Hormuz is a key trade artery through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes, BBC News reminds.

Typically, about 3,000 ships pass through the corridor each month. In 2025, about 20 million barrels of oil passed through the strait daily.

It is deep enough for the world’s largest crude oil tankers, and is used by major oil and LNG producers in the Middle East, as well as their customers.

  • As a reminder, on March 11, the Japanese-flagged container ship One Majesty, the Marshall Islands-flagged dry cargo ship Star Gwyneth, and the Thai-flagged container ship Mayuree Naree were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz .

  1. We can safely assume that Taco’s war is NOT going as planned. Was there even a plan? Now the orange “king” is grovelling to those he disrespected.

  2. I thought the US has enough weapons and ammo to continue this war forever. Now the world’s first army doesn’t get the job done, like in Nam and Afghanistan? Again? I assume the countries asked for help have better armies than the United States. How great America has become again… 🍗🤡👎🐔🐌🩼🪠🚽🩹🆘♿🏳️

      • I’m torn. On the one hand, screw Trump, on the other hand they’re allies of the United States, not Trump, and should act accordingly. If I have my history correct, I recall the Falklands War where the US did not participate but was active in helping our friends in any way we could including logistical and intelligence support.

        • Not quite.
Only one country volunteered their help. The great Sir Robert Muldoon, PM of New Zealand, said he would put his forces at Maggie’s disposal.
          She never forgot that.
Ron Reagan at first behaved like FDR : sending “peace emissaries” to talk with the Argies. They even came up with similar bullshit to Witless.
However, Ronnie finally came round and started providing satellite intel.
          They became friends later.
The UK’s only U.S. friend at the beginning of the conflict was a Democrat; One Joe Biden, who spoke eloquently in the UK’s favour.
Later he rediscovered his IRA granny and started wearing a metaphorical shamrock.
No Nato country offered their help to the U.K.
Despite that, the U.K. sent forces three times to help the U.S. : two gulf wars and Afghanistan.
We lost thousands of valuable men.
Just recently Krasnov made a ridiculous and obscene claim : that our forces “stood back.”
This despite the fact that all Basra was put under U.K. control: and in harm’s way from Iran’s terror proxies.

            • I studied it quite a lot Cap.
Maggie had an affinity for the armed forces. She loved the brisk, no bullshit approach of her commanders, whom she totally trusted.
Head of the task force was the excellent Admiral Sir Sandy Woodward and the commander of the amphibious assault group was Commodore Michael Clapp.
Her relationship with Ron at that time was cordial, but had not yet developed into the strong ideological friendship they had in her second administration.
Her commanders consulted with their counterparts in the U.S. navy. They were told that the operation would be impossible because of the formidable logistics of fighting 8000 miles from home with only the air support available from one carrier. At no time did they offer any help.
Luckily, Maggie’s men formulated many complex operational plans to help her to achieve the objective.
One solution was to build up RAF Ascension Island as a forward base.
Anyway, the whole thing was touch and go for a long time.
It’s doubtful whether our current senior service could carry such an operation out today.
When the chips were down, our kith and kin in NZ offered their full support.
I always like to remember who our foul weather friends are.
