Time ago: due to sanctions, the aviation industry of the Russian Federation decided to restore the production of Soviet aircraft

The war unleashed by the Russian Nazis on the territory of our country forced the United States and European countries to impose numerous sanctions against Russia. They hit the aviation industry especially hard – rashists must give away aircraft leased from foreign owners, their airlines are prohibited from flying over Europe, and aircraft registered in the Russian Federation and owned by oligarchs are prohibited from serving at airports in any country in the world.

In Russia, they considered that the best way out of this situation would be to resume production of old Soviet airliners.

It should be noted that even if the airlines continue to use Boeings and Airbuses “squeezed out” from lessors purely on their territory, in 2-3 months they will face the problem of a shortage of spare parts, which will also not be supplied, and the so-called “black” deliveries will be strictly suppressed by product manufacturers.

The production of the new Russian medium-range passenger aircraft MS-21, on which many hopes were pinned, seems to have to be curtailed due to the presence of scarce components, including Western ones, and American Pratt & Whitney engines. The invaders have been trying for several years to push this miracle of their aviation industry to commercial airlines, but they still cannot master the production of wing parts from composite materials – the West is in no hurry to share the secrets of its technologies. Prototypes of the airliner fly, but the launch of mass production was constantly postponed, and with the introduction of sanctions against Russian airlines, this project will most likely have to be forgotten.

Based on this, the Russian aviation industry began to look for ways to solve the problem. The Ministry of Transport said that one option would be to complete the construction of the Soviet Il-86 wide-body aircraft, several of which are in the parking lot of the Voronezh Aviation Plant (VASO). The issue of resuming the production of his younger brother, the Il-96, is also being considered. All  newly completed Ilas intend to transfer the S 7 to the airline , however, the carrier’s management does not comment on this decision.

The commissioning of voracious four-engine 350-seat aircraft of the last century will in no way solve the problem of regular transportation in the aggressor country. Interestingly, even in Soviet times, deliveries of aircraft of this type were planned to several countries of the former so-called socialist camp, but Poland and the GDR abandoned this “suitcase without a handle” in time. The only non-Soviet operator was the People’s Republic of China, which ordered as many as three aircraft. Several copies were ordered by Russian military personnel, they still fly under the designation Il-80.

A little more successful was his descendant Il-96, which was sold to the Cubans – five aircraft are still active and fly from Havana to the Orly airport in Paris. Another 11 aircraft of this type are used by Putin and the government of the Russian Federation, and several aircraft have been converted into a flying command post.

It must be said that the return to the old Soviet technology speaks of the beginning of the agony of the Russian aviation industry, which is not able to put modern models into production. After the announcement of the completion of the Il-86 and Il-96, one should not be surprised if the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation speaks in favor of resuming the production of even more ancient exhibits, which, by the way, are still in operation in some places in the Air Force, we are talking about the Tu-134, Tu-154 and Yak-42.
