Russia continues to deplete its reserves in the Sumy region, with minimal progress and maximum losses.

The situation in Sumy region is not going in favor of the Russians, despite their statements. They are suffering significant losses there and are gradually reducing their ability to continue the offensive. Former SBU employee and military expert Ivan Stupak said this in a comment to the Telegraf publication .

According to him, Russia transferred combat-ready reserves from the Kursk direction to the Pokrovsky, replacing them with units from the Leningrad Military District. And after that, they continued to insist in the infopole that they had an advance in the Sumy region. 

“In particular, there are “dark-skinned squads” working there, as they are called in the Russian Federation. This is a unit that guides aviation, and as a result, FABs arrive in Sumy. There are videos on the Internet of FABs completely destroying landings, there is simply nothing left of them. They also use a lot of FPV drones,” the expert said.

The expert noted that despite Russian propaganda claims of success, the real situation on the Sumy front is not in favor of the occupiers. Such conclusions can be drawn from numerous statements by the so-called Russian military intelligence officers.

“Russian military leaders claim that nothing is happening with the offensive, that they are “wearing it out”. The 155th, 810th, and 177th brigades have been wiped out. There is almost nothing left of them. That is, the advances are minimal, and the losses are maximum. Therefore, we can cautiously assume that the “big offensive” that the Russians launched in May 2025 is starting to “sluggish”. The enthusiasm that was there in early June is gone,” he said.

Stupak added that the situation could change if additional forces are deployed. But there is currently no information whether the Russians have such reserves or whether they will withdraw forces from some direction.
