Several thousand video meetings of the German army (Bundeswehr) were leaked online due to a bug in the military’s video conferencing software. The German publication Die Zeit writes about it .
According to journalists, more than 6,000 video meetings, including secret ones, got into the network. The leak was caused by a bug in the Bundeswehr’s version of the Webex video-meeting app, which was specially created for the needs of the Bundeswehr. The “military” version of the program was believed to be more secure than the public civilian version.
It is reported that the specialists of the Bundeswehr patched the “hole” in their information network during the day, as soon as they found out about its existence. The attention of the military was drawn to the problem by journalists who turned to the Bundeswehr for comments.
Secrecy problems in the Bundeswehr
As UNIAN wrote, a loud scandal broke out two months ago after Russian propaganda published the talks of German officers in a video conference program. In particular, options for strikes on the Crimean Bridge were discussed in the conversation.
As German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius later explained , the leak was the fault of one of the participants in the meeting who connected to the video meeting via Wi-Fi in the hotel.
Against the background of this scandal, the publication BILD published an article in which it was said that the Western special services do not trust Germany because of the constant “downpours” of the Kremlin. German intelligence is considered “second class” and does not pass on secret information.

Was a major face>palm, and an embarrassment. Had we known we could have used this to our advantage, but I doubt anything so brilliant happened.
That had to be expected, after the first leak. It was unlikely that that video call had been the only one intercepted. It’s a huge embarassment for Germany. I’m surprised that apparently nobody has been fired yet. ☹
