The strike on Ukraine with the R-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile is madness due to its very large minimum flight range and the enormous cost of one unit – $50 million.

Aviation expert Valeriy Romanenko said this in an interview with journalists . He noted that he was surprised by the following fact: the minimum flight range of this missile is 2 thousand km, while its potential launch point is less than a thousand kilometers.

“That is, how they were going to shoot in general, this is the idea of ​​the clinical idiot Dmitry Rogozin, who was the deputy prime minister of the military-industrial complex in the Russian Federation, and who was removed for the failure of most of their military programs. In general, this is an intercontinental ballistic missile, shooting such at a neighboring country is something beyond normal sense,” the expert emphasized.

At the same time, according to him, Ukraine has no defense against such a missile; even the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system does not work against it.

“The launch weight of the Rubezh missile is 43-50 tons. For comparison, the launch weight of the Iskander and Kinzhal missiles is 3.8 tons, 10-15 times less,” the specialist explained.

At the same time, he added that the use of such missiles in the Russian Federation is limited, because the cost of each unit is from $50 million (Iskander – $10 million). American THAAD systems can combat missiles such as Rubezh.

“If such a missile is used, it will be once, maximum twice, or in the distant future, when there will be serial production of this type of missile. And for this, it is necessary to build a plant for their production. Because this missile was not adopted for service and is not included in their missile program. Therefore, there are not many of them in the Russian Federation,” said Romanenko.

He added that due to the very high cost, the Russians will not have the capacity to mass-produce such weapons. “In addition, it will be necessary to remove the nuclear warhead, all the equipment, remake the missile into a conventional one with a high-explosive warhead, and the result… (is questionable – UNIAN),” the expert believes.

According to Romanenko, one of the THAAD systems was deployed in Israel when it was attacked from Iran by medium-range missiles that were not intercontinental.

According to Romanenko, the Russian Federation does not yet have medium-range missiles in service, but plans to establish their production. This is evidenced, among other things, by satellite images that show that Russia is expanding factories that produce fuel and engines for this type of missile.
