The Hungarian opposition is outraged by the statements of the current authorities.

Hungary , most likely, would not resist the invasion of the Russian Federation, and Ukraine’s struggle for independence is “irresponsible”. Such a statement was made by the political director of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government, Balaž Orban, which angered the opposition.

According to Bloomberg , Balazs Orbán, who helps Prime Minister Viktor Orbán develop the country’s foreign policy, went too far in his attempts to demonstrate loyalty to the Kremlin, and he said it was against the interests of the European Union and NATO allies. The publication writes that it is still unclear whether the prime minister, who is not related to his assistant, despite having the same last name, shares these views.

“Most likely, we would not have done what President Zelensky did two and a half years ago, because it is irresponsible. He entered into a defensive war… and we see how many people have died and how many territories have been lost,” Balazs Orban said. in an interview with the Hungarian mass media.

This statement was received extremely negatively by opposition-minded Hungarians. 

“Now we know what we only guessed: the government will not defend Hungary in the event of a Russian invasion,” wrote András Ratsa, an expert on Russia and a lecturer at the Corvinus University in Budapest, on Facebook.

Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar called on Balazs Orbán to resign because his comments “disrespect the foundations of Hungary’s constitution and independence”.Bloomberg draws attention to the fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, criticized military aid to Ukraine this week from the UN podium. According to him, the supply of Western weapons to resist the invasion of Russia “makes no sense.”
