Ukrainian drones have once again visited St. Petersburg, where Putin is currently hosting an international economic forum. On June 6, Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Russian Navy’s 15th Arsenal in the Leningrad Region and the Kronstadt Naval Base.
Aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap , analyzing the drone attack on St. Petersburg on Channel 24 , suggested that Ukraine used long-range FP-1 aircraft-type drones.
Drone attack on St. Petersburg: why did air defense fail?
Russian air defense systems, as the aviation expert noted, are incapable of intercepting FP-1 drones. These drones have improved guidance and targeting systems, allowing for the development of more effective strike tactics.
“If you look at the previous attack (on June 3) on the oil terminal, you can see that our drone approached, took aim, turned, and only then struck. This indicates that either it has reliable communications, allowing the operator to carry out strikes, or it has a recognition system and automated targeting. All of this is automatic. This is a completely different level of precision,” Krivolap emphasized.
The aviation expert noted that footage captured by witnesses during the first attack on the St. Petersburg oil terminal showed a National Guard officer attempting to shoot down a Ukrainian drone with an automatic rifle, but to no avail. As Krivolap explained, it’s virtually impossible to have enough Pantsir missiles to intercept UAVs at low altitudes.
They don’t have enough interceptor drones to effectively counter Ukrainian drones. While we’re currently shooting down up to 95% of the UAVs Putin sends to Ukraine, the Russians are also shooting down a large number of our own. However, we always find ways to penetrate Russian air defenses, Krivolap stated.
Details of the June 6 attack on St. Petersburg
- The SBU reported that a fire and secondary detonation occurred after the strike on the Russian Navy’s 15th Arsenal, where missiles and ammunition were stored. Locals reported the possible evacuation of residents of nearby villages.
- A fire was also reported at a second facility near the Kronstadt Naval Base and the Kronstadt Shipyard. These military facilities support the operations of the Russian naval group in the Baltic Sea.
- The Kronstadt naval base, which was hit, is approximately 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It is a strategic element of Russia’s military machine. It houses warships, submarines, training centers, and ship repair docks and shipbuilding facilities.
- The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian drones visited 14 regions overnight. The largest number landed in St. Petersburg. Russian media reported 200 UAVs .

Even if only a few get through, they can cause devastation. I remember the orcs surrounding these terminals with cope cages, they don’t seem to be working very well.
Looking at Ukraine’s success rate, no, they don’t work very well.
