“They will save the country”: Elon Musk supports German pro-Kremlin party

The Alternative for Germany party has repeatedly spoken out against supporting Ukraine.

Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed his support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Recently, he has begun to pay more attention to right-wing parties in European countries, Politico reports .

“Only the AfD can save Germany,” Musk wrote on his X social media page on Friday, December 20, along with a repost from German right-wing media personality Naomi Seibt, who is known for her ties to the AfD.

It is noted that Seibt has repeatedly denied human-caused climate change. For this, journalists have dubbed her the “anti-Greta”, comparing her to Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

In addition, AfD’s candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, later responded to the billionaire and said he was absolutely right. According to her, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel “destroyed the country,” the publication noted.

Journalists shared that according to polls, Alternative for Germany is in second place ahead of the country’s snap elections, which are scheduled for February 23. This would potentially allow it to become the largest opposition party in the next parliament.

Musk has long expressed his sympathy for the AfD, the publication emphasized. However, he also has some doubts about their activities.

“Why do some people have such a negative reaction to AfD? They keep saying ‘far-right’ things, but AfD’s policies that I’ve read about don’t seem extremist. Maybe I’m missing something,” he wrote on social media in June.

The publication noted that many German politicians consider the AfD to be an extremist and Nazi party. Despite this, it is gaining more and more support in the country.

The publication recalled that the billionaire also supported Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni and the leader of the British Reform UK party Nigel Farage. After that, the member of the UK Parliament even boasted that Musk “stands behind him.

“This is not the first time Elon Musk has commented on German politics in X. Berlin has taken note of this statement,” a German government spokesman replied in response to the billionaire’s post.
