I wish that comfort-zone peacemakers, often brave enough to lecture Ukraine, would raise their righteous pen-swords to address the conundrum of how to achieve a ceasefire or any form of ‘deal’ with a Russian side that openly and consistently espouses these views*:
“There will be no life (left). Not in Kharkiv. Not in Poltava. Not in Mykolaiv. Not in Odesa. These cities will not exist. And Kyiv will not exist”

*Naturally, I do appreciate this requires altogether more effort than pretending that the issue is Kyiv’s stubbornness.
