“There is contamination of the chest cavity”: the minister – on the condition of children who were operated on before the attack on “Okhmatdet”

The hospital itself has no light, oxygen or water supply.

Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko reported that as a result of the Russian missile strike, the children’s hospital ” Okhmatdet ” has no light, oxygen or water. He said this on the air of an information marathon.

Lyashko noted that five buildings in the Okhmatdet hospital and one building of the Children’s Cardiac Surgery Center were damaged by the Russian terrorist attack. In addition, the minister reported on the key tasks that are currently being addressed.

“First, the building that was completely destroyed is being dismantled. This is the toxicology building, where the children were on an artificial kidney. And the key task is to evacuate the building that was also damaged, where oncohematology, oncology, surgery, and traumatology were. We are gradually evacuating the children to other hospitals today, since there is no light, oxygen, or water supply in Okhmatdet. Our task today is to minimize potential negative consequences for those who were treated in the hospital,” Lyashko explained.

In addition, the minister said that the director of the Cardiac Surgery Center told him that three surgeries were being performed at the time of the explosion, and all the windows in the operating room were broken.

“We have contamination of the chest cavity because there were operations on the heart. Now doctors at another hospital are trying to save the lives of those babies who were operated on at the Cardiac Surgery Center,” Lyashko said.
