The Yermak icebreaker is on fire in Russia (video)

On Thursday, February 29, the moored icebreaker “Yermak” caught fire in St. Petersburg . Videos of a serious fire on a ship have appeared online.

The Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergency Situations and Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation writes that the fire occurred in the Kirovsk district. They state that the vessel is not in use and is subject to disposal.

The fire on the 1st deck was localized on 20 square meters, on the 2nd – extinguishing is in progress, the fire is 35 square meters. It is noted that nine people got off the ship even before the arrival of firefighters, no one was injured.

As you know, in 2022 Russia announced that they will dismantle the Yermak icebreaker. About 112 types of various equipment were to be used for the restoration of the diesel polar icebreaker “Krasin” (project R-1039).
