According to an UNIAN correspondent, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this today at a briefing in Washington.
“The situation now is that President Putin created this crisis by concentrating 100,000 Russian troops along the Ukrainian borders. This includes the recent movement of Russian troops to Belarus for joint exercises and additional exercises on the eastern border of Ukraine. So, let’s be frank, our vision, that this is an extremely dangerous situation. We are now in such a state that Russia can launch an attack in Ukraine at any moment ,” Psaki said.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken intends to make it very clear that there is a diplomatic path to move forward, she said.
” This choice is up to President Putin and the Russians to decide whether they are going to suffer serious economic consequences or not,” Psaki stressed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will arrive in Kyiv on January 19 . He will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. The talks will focus on practical US support for Ukraine and active diplomatic efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
Blinken will also meet with family members and staff at the US Embassy in Ukraine to “report on the State Department’s contingency planning efforts if Russia chooses to further escalate.”

The United States expects the ongoing Florida National Guard mission to Ukraine to continue as tensions rise and Russian forces build up near the Ukrainian border.
This was stated at a briefing by the representative of the US Department of Defense John Kirby.
“They (the soldiers of the Florida National Guard – UNIAN) continue to work together with their Ukrainian counterparts, again, advising, helping and helping to learn. We expect this mission to continue,” Kirby said.
