  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced his intention to eliminate temporary exemptions from sanctions against Russian oil.
  • The current easing was introduced to expand global supplies of raw materials, but Washington plans to return to full-fledged restrictions.
  • The final decision on the cancellation of the preferential treatment will be made by the US Treasury Department, which will take into account current circumstances and stability in the global market.

Washington intends to eliminate temporary exemptions from the sanctions regime on Russian oil in the near future, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at a press conference , responding to questions from Democratic Party representative Jeanne Shaheen.

According to him, the current easing was once introduced solely to expand global supplies of raw materials, while the basic course of the American authorities remains unchanged.

The government official clearly outlined Washington’s position on the need for a speedy return to full restrictions against the aggressor.

“We would like to stop this as soon as possible, because the main policy of this country is sanctions on Russian oil,” Rubio stressed.

At the same time, the Secretary of State clarified that the final decision on the abolition of the preferential regime will be made by the US Treasury Department, which will take into account the current circumstances and stability in the global market at the time of consideration of this issue.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, the day before, the United States lifted sanctions restrictions on the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products transported by sea for 30 days, despite previous public assurances not to renew the relevant licenses.

Recall that Russia failed to export oil through the Baltics despite the easing of US sanctions.

  1. Hmmm…

    “Rubio announced his intention”
“The final decision […] will be made by the US Treasury Department”

    So, Rubio’s intention is meaningless.

“take into account current circumstances and stability in the global market.”

How about taking into account funding evil that’s attempting genocide?
