To join NATO, Ukraine still needs to carry out reforms in the defense sector and special operations forces, as well as resolve the issue with the territories occupied by Russia.

This was stated by US Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine Christina Quinn in an interview with the host of the talk show “Right to Vladu” Natalya Moseychuk, TSN reports .

According to her, joining the European Union, NATO or other Western organizations is not an easy process for a diplomat, but Ukraine has already come a long way to membership and has a National Program, according to which it cooperates with the Alliance.

“There are also some reforms that are yet to come, and they concern not only the defense sector, but also the Special Operations Forces and other sectors. Therefore, Ukraine is on this path, but not yet at the end point,” she stated.

Quinn admitted that Ukrainians “may be upset about having to work so hard for so long.” At the same time, she assured that “the goal of Western integration is worth it.”

She also said that NATO has no requirements for potential members, that “every problem that a country has must be solved.” It is about the inviolability of borders, she said. However, Queen added, there is a tradition that before joining the Alliance, “things like this should be resolved.”

“Therefore, of course, we hope that a reasonable solution for Donbass will be found, and that the crisis in Donbass and Russian aggression can be resolved. So that Ukraine can join NATO without having some kind of ongoing conflict,” the diplomat concluded.

Note that earlier President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the issue of joining NATO does not depend on Ukraine .
