Germany is determined to continue to provide Ukraine with modern military equipment, giving priority to air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, including ammunition.

The text of the Agreement on Security Cooperation and Long-Term Support between Ukraine and the Federal Republic of Germany has been published . The text of the agreement was published on the website of the President of Ukraine.
Military support for Ukraine
The document states that Germany “is unwavering in its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the borders internationally recognized since 1991, including the territorial sea and the free economic (maritime) zone.”
In particular, Germany “intends to provide unwavering support to Ukraine for as long as necessary to help Ukraine defend itself, restore territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, ensure its free and democratic future, enable Ukraine to continue to provide services to its people, maintain a functioning Ukrainian economy and deter future Russian aggression.”
Ukraine and Germany will work together to achieve a just and lasting peace that will have broad global support.
Ukraine and Germany share the goal of creating a modern, interoperable and resilient Ukrainian Defense Forces. Both countries share the view that it is necessary to avoid the illegal diversion of military products that will be provided to Ukraine.
“Participants will work together to provide a resilient force capable of defending Ukraine now and deterring future aggression by continuing to provide security assistance and advanced military equipment in the land, air, sea, space and cyber domains, giving priority to air defense, artillery, armored vehicles , including munitions, and other key capabilities, as well as promoting increased levels of interoperability with Euro-Atlantic partners,” the agreement notes.
Both countries will strengthen cooperation in the field of intelligence. Germany will also provide, upon request, education and training for law enforcement instructors, such as the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and will continue to provide material support to law enforcement partner agencies.
At the same time, Germany will explore ways to encourage and facilitate the involvement of its defense industry in the development of Ukraine’s defense industrial base, including through German industrial investment and the creation of appropriate incentives for investment.
Restoration of Ukraine and punishment of Russian war criminals
Germany will continue to support Ukraine on its path from rapid to long-term recovery.
“The participants confirm that the Russian Federation must be held accountable for damage caused on the territory of Ukraine. Russian sovereign assets must remain frozen until the Russian Federation pays for the damage it caused to Ukraine,” the agreement states.
In addition, Ukraine and Germany recognize the need to create an international compensation mechanism to provide compensation for losses, losses or damage caused by Russian aggression.
Both countries emphasize a strong commitment to bringing to justice those responsible for war crimes and other atrocities committed in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Post-war security guarantees
“In the event of a new armed attack by Russia on Ukraine, at the request of any of the parties [to this agreement], the parties will hold consultations within 24 hours to determine appropriate further steps,” the document notes.
In this regard, Germany confirms that in such circumstances, it “will provide Ukraine, if necessary, with rapid and sustainable security assistance, modern military equipment in all necessary areas, as well as economic assistance, and will seek agreement in the EU regarding the imposition of economic and other costs.”
At the same time, Ukraine is committed to continuing its ambitious reform program, and Germany is committed to supporting Ukraine’s reform efforts. “This is key in the context of its European and NATO aspirations,” the agreement says.
The duration of this agreement is ten years.
Security agreements between Ukraine and Western countries
As UNIAN reported, the first country with which Ukraine signed an agreement on security cooperation was Great Britain . The document, signed in January, guarantees military assistance to Ukraine throughout the current war, as well as in the event of new Russian aggression after the current war ends.
Immediately after this, the US Embassy reported that Washington also intended to sign a similar agreement with Ukraine. According to Ambassador Bridget Brink , negotiations between Ukraine and the United States on this document are currently ongoing.

Ok, this seems reasonable. Scholz didn’t promise anything that Germany wasn’t already doing. The point of putting this into a contract is obviously to make it clear to Putin that any hopes the support may be terminated are in vain. That’s the positive side of Scholz’ stubborness, he stands by his decisions.
