State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading a bill that will allow the Russian authorities to declare the activities of foreign organizations “undesirable” on the territory of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the press service of the lower house of parliament.

The authors of the document propose to amend the law “On measures of influence on persons involved in violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms, the rights and freedoms of a citizen of the Russian Federation,” expanding its effect to organizations “whose founder (participant) is government bodies of a foreign state.”

“Now only the activities of foreign non-governmental organizations can be considered undesirable. This legal gap in the legislation must be eliminated in order to exclude the possibility of interfering in the internal affairs of our country. Organizations created by government agencies from the USA, Britain, and other European countries are conducting activities directed against Russia. Stopping them is a matter of security, protecting the interests of our citizens,” said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

In addition, deputies approved in the first reading amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code, which establish liability for participation in the activities of such organizations.
