For the first time in two years of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, Russian troops most likely managed to detect and hit part of the Ukrainian battery of the American Patriot air defense system , writes Forbes .
It is noted that near Pokrovsk, the Russians discovered a Ukrainian convoy, which apparently included at least two truck-mounted launchers for the Patriot ground-based system.
“Reacting faster than usual, the Russian crew of an Iskander hypersonic surface-to-surface missile took aim and scored a direct hit on the Ukrainian convoy. Two of the suspected Patriot launchers exploded, almost certainly killing their crews,” the publication claims. .
Forbes also writes that Ukrainian Patriot batteries have shot down as many as a dozen Russian fighter-bombers over the past month, which “negated Russia’s advantage in the air.”
The destruction of Patriot installations in Ukraine was announced by the journalist of the German publication Bild Julian Röpke on the social network X (Twitter).
Meanwhile, on March 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense distributed a video of what was stated to be an attack on the S-300 air defense system of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Russian media suggested that perhaps these images show the defeat of the Patriot installations, which Forbes is talking about.

If true, a tactical screwup of the worst kind: Two Patriot launchers parked as close together as this, out in the open without camouflage, this shouldn’t happen. However, I’m a bit sceptical. The video at Warthog Defense showed the debris after the Russian strike, and this didn’t quite look like the burned out remains of solid military vehicles, but more like rather light constructions totally blown apart. I suspect the Russians hit two decoys. 🤔
