Zhuravlev criticized Russian data center owners for insufficient preparation.

Alexey Zhuravlev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, stated that Russian data center owners must ensure their own protection from Ukrainian drone attacks. His words were quoted by Russian media.

A presenter gestures while discussing an event, with a background image showing smoke and fire from a disaster scene.

“The country is fighting a difficult war, and it’s strange to pretend that the business community won’t be affected. Everyone will have to participate,” Zhuravlev said.

According to the official, Russian businesses already have the ability to create their own air defense systems to protect facilities. He added that Russian companies are also permitted to arm such facilities.

However, Zhuravlev acknowledged that data centers still lack sufficient protection against drones:

“There are no anti-drone nets or observation posts in sight, no protective equipment at all.”

The official stated that Russian businesses should have anticipated possible attacks on such facilities, as the locations of data centers are not secret. He also called on owners of large companies to invest in the security of critical infrastructure.
