The Russian oil refinery Yaroslavnefteorgsintez has suspended oil refining following an attack by Ukrainian drones, Reuters reported , citing four industry sources.

The attack on Yaroslavnefteorgsintez reportedly damaged the plant’s equipment. Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Evraev then announced that a “major drone attack” had been repelled.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine struck the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery on the night of September 17. The refinery is located approximately 250 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

According to the agency’s sources, the strike damaged the AVT-3 primary oil distillation unit, which has a capacity of 17,140 tons per day, which is approximately 40% of the plant’s total refining capacity.

Journalists added that the refinery also has two more primary distillation units: AT-4 with a rated capacity of 11,430 tons per day (27% of total capacity) and AVT-4 with a capacity of 14,300 tons per day (33% of total capacity). According to market participants, fuel produced by Yaroslavnefteorgsintez was not offered for sale on the domestic commodity exchange on September 17. According to industry sources, in 2024, this refinery processed 14.9 million tons of crude oil, producing 2.6 million tons of gasoline, 4.0 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4.7 million tons of fuel oil.
