The Rada named three “red lines” of Ukraine in peace talks with Russia

Ukraine will not take steps that curtail its sovereignty, the Rada says.

Ukraine will not agree to limit its sovereignty within the framework of a peace treaty with Russia . This was stated in an interview with the BBC by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on International Policy, Oleksandr Merezhko.

He noted that Kyiv has limits on how far it is willing to go to end the war with Russia. Specifically, according to Merezhko, there are “three very firm red lines”:

  • Territorial integrity. Ukraine will never agree to any territorial concessions, and this is “non-negotiable.”
  •  Ukraine’s membership in NATO and other international organizations. Putin should not decide this issue for Ukraine itself.
  • Defense capability. Kyiv cannot agree to Putin’s demands to reduce the Ukrainian army.
