The enemy was interested in information about sabotage and reconnaissance raids of special forces in the southern directions.

The SBU, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, detained a “mole” of the Russian GRU, who was handing over special operations plans of the Defense Forces to the occupiers.

According to the press service of the SBU, military counterintelligence and investigators of the Ukrainian special service, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the commander of the SSO, detained a “de-canned” agent of the Russian military intelligence (GRU).

It is said that this is a lieutenant colonel, the commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces, who was recruited by the Russian occupiers even before the start of a full-scale war. In the spring of 2024, he was remotely “activated” by a staff member of the GRU and assigned the task: to transmit plans for combat operations of the Defense Forces behind enemy lines.

“The aggressor was most interested in intelligence about sabotage and reconnaissance raids by Ukrainian special forces behind the front line, in particular in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimean directions. To perform the task, the “mole” used his official position, thanks to which he received information about the planned routes of movement of the soldiers of the Defense Forces, their weapons and “goals”, the message says.

According to the press service, the invaders planned to use this information to eliminate Ukrainian special forces on the front line or beyond it, in the temporarily occupied territory of southern Ukraine. The “mole” also gave his supervisor data on other units of the Defense Forces.

During the special operation, the military counterintelligence of the SBU gradually documented the traitor’s crimes and detained him. At the same time, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defense Forces.

“The figure was recruited by the military intelligence of the Russian Federation through his acquaintances in Russia, with whom he maintained contact,” the SBU clarified.

During the searches, conspiratorial means of communication, computer equipment, a mobile phone and data storage devices were seized from him. The figure was informed of the suspicion under part. 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The perpetrator is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As they added, the Special Operation was carried out jointly with the investigators of the Odesa Department of the SBU under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor’s Office.

It will be recalled that the 22-year-old operator of unmanned systems of one of the combat brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which maintains the defense in the Kramatorsk direction, directed enemy artillery at his brigade . The traitor, who was a contractor, was detained. According to the SBU, he was recruited remotely in 2023 by FSB personnel officer Dmytro Sorokoletov. The traitor was “draining” the locations of his anti-aircraft unit, which was engaged in adjusting the fire on the ridges attacking Chasiv Yar.

The military counter-intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine  exposed another informant  of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (known as the GRU) in the Kyiv region, who was collecting intelligence data about the “Offensive Guard” units.
