The front line “smells” of garlic: border guards show how they use Vietnam War tactics against the enemy

07/22/2025

Ukrainian military personnel demonstrated how they use Vietnam War tactics against the enemy. In particular, a border guard with the call sign Drozd from the “Forpost” brigade makes anti-personnel and anti-vehicle barriers in the shape of sharp triangles. They are called “garlic.”

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine clearly demonstrated this tactic . The defenders joked, in particular, that the front line “smelled” of garlic.

“Metal traps puncture tires, stop light armored vehicles, slow down movement and force the enemy to change their route. They are dropped from drones – directly onto roads, roadsides and enemy columns,” the caption to the video says.

It is noted that this is a modernized tactic that dates back to the Vietnam War, but still works successfully today.

Earlier, Rustem Umerov stated that Ukraine has changed its approach to the construction of fortifications, taking into account the change in the tactics of offensive actions of the Russian troops. Previously, fortifications were built on the principle of battalion defense areas and company strongholds with a significant length of communication corridors (2-5 km).

It is worth adding that Ukrainian border guards are currently not recording any concentration of enemy troops on the border with Belarus. However, the direction remains threatening, so the situation there is being closely monitored.

As a reminder, earlier, a military-political observer in the OBOZ.UA special project analyzed whether Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities are threatened by an attack from Belarus during the Zapad-2025 exercises. They are scheduled to take place in mid-September this year.
