G7 expresses concern over searches at Ukraine’s anti-corruption agency

 21 July 2025

The ambassadors of the Group of Seven countries have expressed concern over investigative actions carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) against the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) in which a suspected Russian agent was uncovered, saying they intend to discuss these incidents with the government.

Details: The G7 ambassadors said they are closely following the investigation into several NABU employees who are suspected of having committed crimes.

“We met today with NABU, have serious concerns and intend to discuss these developments with government leaders,” the statement said.

The diplomats included a reminder that they support “transparency, independent institutions, and good governance, and we value our partnerships in Ukraine to combat corruption together”.

Background:

  • On 21 July, the SSU conducted an operation to “neutralise Russian influence on NABU”, with 80 searches taking place across various oblasts.
  • Later, the SSU and the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that they had detained Ruslan Mahamedrasulov, one of the heads of NABU’s interregional detective departments.
  • An employee of NABU’s central office was also detained on suspicion of spying for the Russian secret services.
  • NABU complained that force was used against its employees and that the investigative actions were carried out without a court warrant. They also stated that there is no evidence of the detained employee’s involvement in anti-state activities.
  • The Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office claimed the SSU had access to all NABU special operations. The SSU later denied this.
  • Last week, the G7 ambassadors called on the new government led by Yuliia Svyrydenko to continue working on reforms.

  1. Zelensky and his allies better watch very carefully what they’re doing. The last thing they can afford is to act like mafia land in any way. It’s not only the West to worry about, but also the people. The Orange Revolution and Euromaidan should be enough warning.

      • Haven’t we gone over this before? When VPOTUS threatened to withhold aid, it was because Viktor Shokin wasn’t doing enough to investigate corruption. VPOTUS was acting as an agent of POTUS, and the USA, the IMF, and other countries wanted Shokin to go because he failed to do investigations of corruption and economic crimes of President Yanukovych and his close associates.

Without pressure from VPOTUS, European diplomats, the International Monetary Fund and other international organizations, Shokin would not have been fired, said Daria Kaleniuk, co-founder and executive director of the Anti Corruption Action Centre in Kiev.

“Civil society organizations in Ukraine were pressing for his resignation,” Kaleniuk said, “but no one would have cared if there had not been voices from outside this country calling on him to go.”

  2. This could be a silly analysis but it’s curious that many of the spies, traitors are well over 35 years old, suggesting that these individuals under Soviet/Russian rule and inherently have a bias towards the orcs. Not suggesting everyone over 35 are suspects, obviously not, it’s just seems to be a silly coincidence. By the way seeing the youth of Ukraine running away too avoid military service sucks and these people should never come back to their homeland. Harsh, but an opinion.
