The problem, however, is that Europe has not yet confiscated anything from the Russians, but has only temporarily “frozen” it.

The European Parliament has adopted a new legislative resolution on the Directive on the identification and seizure of assets of criminal origin, which will allow the rapid freezing and confiscation of this money in the EU. According to Deutsche Welle , the resolution was adopted on Wednesday, March 13.

The document states that Russian assets confiscated due to its aggressive war should become a “contribution to the restoration of Ukraine.”

It is also reported that the European Commission should develop recommendations on the use of confiscated assets and property for compensation, restitution and reparations to states affected by international crimes.

“If assets were confiscated in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine or related crimes (…), then these assets or the net proceeds resulting from the liquidation of such assets should be used to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine,” it notes. resolutions.
